One thing that surprised me was that, from what I read, neither Carter or Edwards spoke to RR about it. Carter doesn't surprise me so much, but I'd think with Braylon offering the scholarship and all that he would of made it a point to be in touch with the new coach about it.

RR did a phone interview phone interview on TICKET 1050am WTKA at about 5:15pm last night. few new things were said i heard from him. he addressed this number 1 ordeal when asked. he responded saying that he didnt know about it and just wanted to be informed. he has no intention of breaking and traditions here. he said jersey numbers werent set in stone and that he needed a skill number to give and number 1 was available. he said no one will be wearing number 1 this year, but they will decide who gets it next year. he also again said he did know of this gentlemens agreement and that was cleared up amongst big ten coaches meeting. he also said he didnt take charlie weis "the hell with michigan" comment personally. RR feels he was just trying to fire up the crowd. The buyout was also discussed. RR stated that if an agreement wasn't met by mid July it would have to wait untill next spring as he will be working 7 days a week till signing day next year, (and that WV is busy doing damage control with the gov. daughter getting a fake MBA degree...LOL)

i wish all the bad press about RR would stop. i wish people would back off. i hate the media.

Rodriguez said nobody would wear the coveted No. 1 jersey this fall.

So when we watch Michigan on TV, the announcers can bring up EVERYTIME!!!!!!!! The player thats wearing the #1 jersey, just like Edwards did and how HE wanted it to be a tradition....

If I was a player, I would want my own number and not be in the shadow of a former player.. Whats going to happen when the best WR at Michigan does want the number? Alot of these guys keep the same number since they were kids..

I would say there seem to be more offended that the so-called #1 jersey tradition was dishonored than anyone being offended about this becoming a tradition.

Actually, those of us that aren't too concerned about defending this so-called #1 tradition tend not to be offended, we're just not seeing the point of it when...

a) #1 WR tie has only been around since 1979, less than 30 years, and
b) There are only two WR's that really went on to be much of anything in the NFL and
c) a couple of those #1 wearers since 1979 are kind of like "wtf"

If the point you make is why aren't people for new tradition then I guess my question is what's wrong with RR making a new tradition for the #1 jersey? ;)

And, in fairness, I do see both sides. Personally, I would of liked it to become a tradition, but on the converse side if it doesn't pan out...I am not crying over spilt milk on this one. Remove the helmet decals and I'll be in his office with raised fists though.

Yeah, I have no beef with the #1 thing, but it's far from UM's most sacred, long standing traditions. I'm just annoyed by what a big deal it's getting made out to be. If RR were going to kill any "tradition" I'd offer that one up for sacrafice in a second (not that I'm advocating it).

I don't think anyone is against embracing a new tradition. Emphasis on the word NEW. But, according to Braylon, the No. 1 is a more hallowed and storied tradition than the Michigan uniform?! I don't know about everyone else, but I just feel like this is a tradition that is being forced upon us by Braylon. I don't have a problem with it as long as it doesn't take away from another Michigan tradition and that is, "The Team, The Team, The Team!"

Whoa! Easy Braylon...that's fine if we're going to start/keep the #1 as a tradition, but change the uniforms just as long as you keep the 30 year old, at best, #1 thing going? That's kind of out there.
