So, they wait until now to try and deface RR and Barwis with this angle.  ouch.  I doubt there isn't any proof to link them, but that is not how it will be spun...

Sounds like he was not retained by the RR staff, so either RR has great people reading skills, or he just got lucky by not retaining his services.  Nice let go there Rich, he should be complimented on this one. He was probably just comming to "buff" up a few cycles while working out with the wolfman. 

There can't be anything good that comes of this. Sounds like he was a pretty good kid - just made a hell of a poor decision. One that will probably cost him dearly.

Biggs told Ziecina they were "post-workout pills" and said he was inMichigan assisting with the training and conditioning of the U-Mfootball team.

This is the part that sounds really, REALLY bad.  I guess "eeeeeee barwis!" is just a form of roid rage.  lol!

"U-M football spokesperson Dave Ablauf said this morning that Biggs was employed as an hourly worker by U-M's football staff under former head coach Lloyd Carr, but was not retained when coach Rich Rodriguez and conditioning coach Mike Barwis took over the program after U-M's bowl game on Jan. 1."

Second, the school said he is not working for them, so Biggs lied to try and save face.   BUSTED COLD.

Anyone involved in sports at any level has seen guys on the margins who are always susceptible to taking shortcuts to make it to the next level. 

The danger of an intensive weight training regime (like the Barwis S&C program) is that kids on the margins might feel pressure to sidestep the right way to do things and make a bad decision.  Before you start whining that I'm slamming RichRod/Barwis- I'm not.  Some athletes in any program will make bad decisions.  In fact, the new Michigan S&C program has a large enough staff who have the experience to identify when/if kids start taking shortcuts.  They seem to have the right safeguards in place.

The problem I worry with RB is whether he was working as a personnal trainer for some of the guys on the team.  I'm sure we haven't heard the end of this.

He's still listed as being on the AD staff in the online directory.

No better time than right before the season starts after all the articles about Barwis and Michigan's new S&C.

While the arrest was in January, he was just indicted this week and has a hearing next week.  That's why these articles are popping up now.  I don't think the media picked up on it until it hit the courts.

To summarize, an EX-player got arrested 7 months ago and tried to lie his way out of it, by saying that he was working for UM.  Nice.

This is really bad, no matter how you slice it. If Biggs was ever in the team workout facility (which I'm sure he was)... then RR of MB have to take some responsibility. Sure, sure... you can't check everyone's duffle bag as they come in to work out. But you still have to admit that some responsibility for failing to to recognize the use of banned substances right under your nose. Now, if Biggs was working with players presently on the team... then heads are going to roll. 

You just can't have a former player (on steoids) working out with or around present players. It's too hard to defend the idea that it was only Biggs using steroids. Ick.

I may need to reread the link above but I'm pretty sure they said the pills were found in his car.  Was he supposed to search his car too?  How about a background check?  Shoot, they should just do urine and blood samples on anyone that steps foot into a Michigan facility.  In no way, shape, or form is RR/MB responsible for having a guy not associated with the team working out in Michigan's facilities that has been juicing.

Hey man... I don't think RR or MB condoned anything. I'm not even saying they knew it was happening. But you can't run one of the biggest college football programmes in the country and simply shrug your shoulders and raise your eyebrows when something like this happens in YOUR GYM. It matters not that the pills were in a car. The dude with the pills was possibly circulating amongst players.

Well, until they bust Mike Barwis with some steroids, or RR with the same this is all on Biggs.  Hes the one with the stinkin drugs. Hes the one trying to take the shortcuts, Im sure if steroids were a problem, old Boren would have said something by now.  What if Braylon Edwards came into the gym pumped up on roids, is that RR/MB fault too? They cant stop you from doing stuff to your own body once youl leave their exercise facility.

what part of he was not retained by Barwis are you guys missing?  He was arrested in January and said he was working with Football players.  This is before Barwis took over.  This has nothing to do at all with Rich Rodriguez or Mike Barwis:

Another slow news day, eh guys.  There's nothing to this.  He wasn't working for UM or Barwis so who, exactly, is supposed to be baysitting this guy?

Okay... well, first off... unless my memory is completely mistaken... RR was officially the coach so soon as Lloyd was carried off the field on January 1st. This seems to mean that he was the head coach at the time of the arrest. Probably didn't know much about anybody or anything at that point... but he was the coach. Second, it's not about "babysitting" people. It's about taking some responsibility, coming forth and making a public declaration that this sort of thing is a zero-tolerance issue for your players, and then sitting each and every player down and "reminding" them that this type of action means immediate dismissal.

Maybe the wheels are already in motion. All I'm saying is there's no way RR or MB get away with just sitting on their hands for this one.

The time delays on this make everything confusing, but I think I have it figured out.

If the story had hit the papers at this time, it would've been HUGE.

When the new staff took over, he was not retained (speculation: they probably knew about the arrest).

Last week he gets indicted which catches the attention of the media and results in these articles.

So yes, he's no longer employed.  But, at the time he was busted with roids he WAS EMPLOYED by the S&C program.  It has nothing to do with Barwis/Richrod, that's true.  But it still looks very bad, and if the old S&C guys were still there, their jobs would be jeopardy over this.

The Detroit Free Press clarifies Biggs' relationship with the S&C program.  Although he wasn't retained by Barwis, it appears that he was working at Michigan until Thursday:

"He was an hourly employee with the former staff in weight and conditioning and had not been retained by the new staff of Mike Barwis," U-M spokesman Dave Ablauf said Thursday. "Because he was an hourly employee retained for a year, he began working with teams in Olympic sports. He has since been relieved of his hourly responsibilities, today and until further notice."

oh well, pardon me.  Ok he was still retained by an hourly wage.  Im sorry, did they bust barwis, rr, lc? Or any of the kids?? Huh, no? Well it must be a problem then. Just fire everybody, then we will know for sure. That, or we could just put, barwis and rr on an hourly wage, just to  make sure.
