RE: The Countdown Begins - 100 Days Until Football - Friday, May 23, 2008 12:33 AM
And we come to day #98. (Who thinks this will be a painfully slow process? We have the Stanley Cup Finals, NBA Playoffs, the Triple Crown and baseball to occupy our time for a bit. Then we get the Olympics....then BOOM - football is here!)

#98 is one of 5 retired jerseys at the University of Michigan. Here is a little info about the man who had this number:

#98 worn and retired in honour of Tom Harmon - Michigan's first Heisman Trophy Winner:

"Old 98" literally blazed across the football skies in 1939 and 1940 after a fast start in 1938. He was one of the country's greatest backs of his era. He became Michigan's first Heisman Trophy winner following the 1940 season and also received the Chicago Tribune's Silver Football as the Big Ten's MVP. During the three seasons he rushed for 2,134 yards, scored 33 touchdown and kicked the same number of point-after-touchdown, and booted two field goals for 237 career points. He also threw sixteen touchdown passes. After a thrilling career as a pilot in WW II, he married film star Elyse Knox and became one of the nations top sports broadcasters and directors.

Alright, fine. But when we lose to Utah...

I am thinking if we beat Utah and the curse is proven illegit then BigHouse should have to put something Utes-related for his forum avatar for the season.

No that's alright, I've already been marked down for losses against Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan State, and Ohio State in TK's signature.

87 to go!
Honouring another of our 5 retired jerseys:

Ron Kramer
End, 1955, 1956

From East Detroit, Kramer became a two-time All-American and a nine letterman in three sports - football, basketball, and track. Led Wolverine grid scoring for two seasons and did the same in basketball. He was a star receiver, a fine punter, and placekicker, and a ball-carrier as well. As a basketball player he scored 1,119 points and was a Most Valuable Player as a junior. Following graduation he embarked on a spectacular pro career with the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions.
In the long tradition of outstanding Michigan athletes, Ron Kramer deserves to be ranked among the best. A nine-time letterman (three each in football, basketball, and track), Kramer's credits include two consensus football All-American selections (1955-56), the retirement of his jersey number (87) by the Wolverines following his senior season, and the selection as basketball Most Valuable Player for three years standing.
A native of Girard, KS, Kramer's family moved to East Detroit when he was five. Pri
