NE wasn't complaining when the media was running feature after feature about their perfect season. It cuts both ways, while I think spygate is overblown you can't expect ESPN to ignore it.

"I hate ESPN, all they do is talk about me, worship me, & think about me when they are not talking about me... I watched for an hour last night, and they only mentioned me 7 times, I was hoping for 12."

ORIGINAL: Philc NE wasn't complaining when the media was running feature after feature about their perfect season. It cuts both ways, while I think spygate is overblown you can't expect ESPN to ignore it. It's one thing to report it and another to exploit it. For the record, I think they got too much attention for their perfect season, but there is SO much access to information these days, that a person cannot help but run into all the time no matter what channel they turn to.

The biggest problem with ESPN is they have moved from "reporting'" events to "dramatizing" events. TO, Pac Man, Spygate...it's not just about reporting media, they like generating controversy and page hits. Sadly, many Americans feed on it.

While the above criticisms are valid, people seem to be under the mistaken impression that ESPN is some non-profit organization vested with the responsibility of accurately and responsibly reporting sports news. But they are a business just like the national enquirer and fox news. If "exploiting" a story increases their viewership and revenue, why would we be surprised that they do it?

I don't have any such mistaken impression. In fact, I've stated many times that that's the driving force behind ESPN. What I stated was merely the fact of the shift in their position from a budding sports media outlet to now mega-media drama machine. I assumed people are smart enough to figure out it's revenue generated, that's why I made "page hits" comment.

I believe that most of us probably have a love/hate relationship with ESPN. I personally think that no other station does game broadcasts better than ESPN, as far as picture and camera shots. However, nobody makes me want to scream "I do not care anymore" more than ESPN. I struggle to find a balance between the great things ESPN does for us sports fans, and the Entertainment Tonight feel that it has most of the other time due to the 24/7 news cycle. Tom is on the mark with his critizim, but as others have said, that hype and coverage cuts both way for his "beloved" Patriots.

Honestly that's why i don't watch a lot of ESPN or FoxNews, CNN, etc because nowadays they are nothing but a bunch of talkin' heads. You can't trust half the stuff they say and if you do, they don't even know what the heck they are talking about. I'll watch when my game is on but other then that if they start repeating themselves, oh look the remote time to turn them off.

My TV is usually on Nickelodeon, or reality shows. I'd rather watch a brain stimulating 24 hour marathon of Spongebob than a reality show. Football season can't get here quick enough

While I think the world of Tom Brady, I can't agree with him on this topic. I had to endure as a Cleveland Browns fan the Belichick Era and so anything he has coming..........................

The only way to have any kind of affect on the way they report stories and present topics is to speak with your time and cash... as in take both elsewhere.

If you think ESPN is hard to take now, wait till they kick off this Live SportsCenter thing between 6 am and 3 pm. What in the world can you talk about for 9 hours without relying heavily on sensationalism?

This is such a joke of a non-story. Sure, ESPN ran non-stop with the 'perfect season' stuff but considering there's only been ONE perfect season since the beginning of the Super Bowl, I'd say it's newsworthy. So I guess it stands to reason they'd run with this one all day long. Of course, not having facts and overblowing every last item in this has only served to reinforce what we already know about ESPN in the first place. It's funny that they go out of their way to find former players who are convinced NE gained an advantage from this but when former coaches (see: Jimmy Johnson) are interviewed (conveniently NOT by ESPN), they say it's ridiculous. Now throw in the village idiot Arlen Specter and the the 3-ring circus is complete. Arlen, if you really plan on pursuing this you'd better go after ALL the coaches who have been doing this forever. Jim Mora, Tony Dungy, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, and Marty Schottenheimer are just a few who have all done this but the list is long so pack a sandwhich and bring your milk money. This might take a while.

Why is no one (Goodell or Specter) interviewing anyone from Belichick's "Coaching Tree" - Romeo Crennel, "FAT" Charlie, or Eric Mangini (the guy who's phone call started this whole thing). Weren't they all there when all of this was going on? Note: ESPN should have Kwame Kilpatrick lead an investigation into this matter - ratings "BONANZA" (Kwame should have gotten more than a few "good-tips" about investigative reporting)

Great idea Bo Knows. Kwame could demonstrate first-hand to the ailing Detroit workforce how to retrain yourself and get a new job, because he's gonna need one . . . unless you consider jiggalo a profession.
