**Warning do not read this reply if you have things to do.  It will be a total waste of your time. Read on only if you are bored, you will NOT be able to get this 15 seconds of your life back***

off topic and just wonderin because im bored at work.  not that anyone should have specific answer.. but did you ever think about this?

Why is the phrase "it's on like donkey kong"   is donkey kong just always supposed to be on? because that would be a waste of electricity if you left it on when you left the house, not to mention it could wear out your system.

plus it doesn't even rhyme.  on, and ong.   two totally different sounding words.

It's kinda like "I'm in there like swim wear"    Where is there? and why is there swim wear in there? Unless your talking about a bathing suit store..   but at least it rhymes.

oh well, i'm out, like lance bass.

Yes we can pick now. I've already done my first week. You are able to complete your picks, and edit the picks you made up until 5 mins. to gametime. Be sure to watch out for the point spread games, and you confidence points too. GL

Re:Yahoo College Pick 'Em League, Anyone? - Monday, August 25, 2008 10:37 PM
Heres the rules of the point spread and confidence  because this is where you could get confused an F yourself in week 1. At first i thought the spreads were just listed for some games to help with a pick.. but then i read the rules.  So don't forget to take the spread into consideration!
A point spread is the predicted scoring difference between a game's two opponents. If you choose the team that's favored, they must win by more than the spread number in order for you to get credit for a correct pick. If you choose the underdog team, they have to lose by less than the spread number in order for you to get credit for the correct pick.
So, if you pick Penn State and they're favored to beat Notre Dame by five points (Penn State -5.0), they must win the game by six or more points in order for you to get credit for the win. Otherwise, if Notre Dame loses by less than five, you wouldn't get credit for the win. If Penn State wins by exactly five points, the game is a push, and no users get credit for a victory.
If a point spread is listed as "off," this indicates that there is no official point spread for the game. This is most common when a Div. I school plays a Div. II school. When the line is "off," you're simply picking which team will win the game.
Yahoo! Sports uses the point spreads provided by the Associated Press. These spreads will be updated each day, with Thursday's lines serving as the game's official spread.

-------------------------------------------------------------->

Confidence points are used to give different weight to each of the games during a given week. You'll assign a point value (from 1 to 15 if there are 15 games, 1 to 14 if there are 14 games, etc.) to each game based on how strongly you feel about the accuracy of your pick. If your pick is on the money, you'll receive points equal to the confidence point value you associated with that game.
So, if you pick Penn State to beat Notre Dame and assign the game a confidence point value of 15, you'd get 15 points for a correct pick, but no points if Notre Dame wins. You don't lose points for an incorrect selection.
Each week's points will be tallied, and the player finishing with the highest total at the end of the year will be the winner of the group.
Each confidence point value may be used only once per week. So, during a 15-game week, after you've assigned 15 points to a game, your next highest available value is 14 points.

Thanks for clearing up the confidence points and the "off" part of the point spread. I'm used to picking 25 games/week for my pool with spreads for each game and the tie-breaker being the total points scored for the tuos game and whoever they play.

So, how did every body do? I was 16th out of 40 I guess. 189 points, I don't know if that's good or not. So is our team vs. any other teams. I can't find any team overall standings.

Sweet, Now I thought this was a team event. ie. a grand total of our team scores, vs. all other teams grand totals. I only saw ranking for individual total scores, ( which I didn't even sniff.) lol  Oh well, who could have picked that ECU over VT, I wasted 19 confidence points on that one. lol But I am in the 6% that picked Bowling green over Pitt. Point spread saved my ace on that one. lol

Are you going to try and play again this week Bighouse?
Keep up the good picks Thegirl.

Yeah I'll give it another shot this week, I've just spotted everyone a week, part of my plan.

I used firefox to do my picks, might that have been the problem? Oh well, I'm glad I'm not the only one to screw it up, I felt quite stupid when I went Saturday night to cehck my picks and saw I had zero. I even picked Bama to upset Auburn!

I use firefox - I don't think that is your issue

I learned a long time ago to always check that the picks are set at yahoo - your page will say "edit" or "complete" and that is how to tell if yahoo took the picks

I will take that last sentence as a tip that bama will beat auburn!

for what it is worth, I am the defending yahoo champion, regular season, for umgoblue -

that will fire everyone up to stomp me...

Really, two months early?

For those whose picks didn't work, be sure to go back out to the My Picks page and note that the 'Status' of the applicable week should read 'Complete'.  If it does not, you missed something.
