Victors Walk
-
Saturday, August 23, 2008 10:37 PM
Does anyone know the route of the new "Victors Walk"? I know the buses will be dropping the team off, but just wanted to know where. BTW... I love the idea of this. Can't wait until next Saturday. Unfortunately I won't be there with most of you, my wife and I just had our first little wolverine. We'll still deck the yard out with our tailgate gear and teach the little one how we do game days. I already have his maize and blue gear ready to go. For those of you heading to the game -- be loud and enjoy!
What a great year.....2008 is looking to be.

I don't know for sure, but they will probably get off near Crisler and walk into the east side of the stadium where the lockerrooms are.

If by "copy off of Notre Dame" you mean "copy off of half of Division I-A" then I agree. I know several teams do this--if you ever watch Gameday early enough they usually show the teams walking in.

I'm not terribly excited about it, but Im not heartbroken either. You all can go watch the team walk in on Saturday, Ill be too busy standing on the concourse drooling over the amazing stadium renovations.

Does anyone know if this means that the band will not march in to the stadium from Revelli Hall? That's one of my favorite parts of pregame, we always walk over there and "march in" with the band.

scmgoblue Does anyone know if this means that the band will not march in to the stadium from Revelli Hall? That's one of my favorite parts of pregame, we always walk over there and "march in" with the band. I would assume that they wouldn't mess with that, however, I don't really know. If they keep the Ravelli tradition it means that the band is gonna put even more effort in.

Well the team usually gets to the Stadium 2 hours prior to kick off, I know the Band doesn't get there that early. How long before kickoff does the Band begin their march? There might be enough time for the handful of band members who lead the team to hurry back to Ravelli Hall to join the march?

BigHouse, if memory serves, the band usually heads out from Revelli hall about an hour before kickoff. So it's not like the whole band will be leading the team in on this Victors Walk thing? I guess I was confused based upon the video clip from mgoblog where they were talking about the team doing a "practice gameday".

Yeah I watched it too, I can't imagine the whole band escorting the team though. Two things would have to happen and each seem ridiculous to me. One, The band escorts the team and then chills at the stadium for an hour and a half. The other would be that they escort the team then walk to Ravelli and then march back to the stadium an hour later. So just by that thinking I believe it will not be the entire band.

That sounds perfectly logical to me, I sure hope that's the case. I think the Victors Walk thing is cool... but I much prefer to keep heading in with the MMB. I can't imagine what the Victors Walk will be like for THE GAME in '09 though... for the huge games, I can imagine that that will be quite the atmosphere.

It looked more like the "Fanfare" band than the entire MMB and I would guess they'll be the ones stuck with this gig. From what I can tell this was a fairly recent decision and came as a surprise to the band members. Oh, and the team will be dropped off at Schembechler hall and walk to the stadium.

I haven't heard anything official, but my wife and I were talking about this last night. It almost has to be either the Fanfare band or a group of reserves (band members that won't be performing on field for either the pregame or halftime). As mentioned in other posts, this would be a major change to the band's gameday agenda -- which is already pretty full (and long). Still, it is an exciting idea. We'll see how it works.

Does anybody know if the the parking lots around the Crisler Arena are gated? The last time I went to a game (Appalachian State). I left the south side of the stadium and tried to cut through the parking lots by the Crisler Arena to go north. However, they were all gated and I could not find through. Maybe I was missing something or just delusional from the game I just watched. So I had to walk west to State Street to go north. I just wanted to know if there was an easier way to get to the parking lot to see the victors walk. Thanks.

OK, the band found out for sure today that it will be some of the reserves doing VW.

I've gone to a couple UT (Knoxville :P) games and they used to do something similar. It was pretty neat, so I'm sure it will be an instant hit.
