Time to face the music, Tigers fans. - Saturday, May 17, 2008 3:18 AM
At the rate this is going, this is going to be much more embarrassing and humiliating than the 2003 team that lost 119 games.

Everybody knew that team was going to be disgraceful. This team was supposed to be one of the best in baseball, and instead they're a laughingstock. Everything Leyland is doing is wrong: Guillen to 3rd, Sheffield to left, Zach Miner ANYWHERE, protecting losers like Chuck Hernandez and Lloyd McClendon.

Time to face reality: This team sucks. The Tigers got to the World Series with Brandon Inge, Craig Monroe and Sean Casey in the lineup. What's different now that Sheffield, Renteria and Cabrera are in there? Heart. This team has no heart at all, they're a bunched of mercenaries out there swinging for the fences. I'm so glad they bled the minor leagues dry to bring in these hired guns.

Maybe after the parades for the Red Wings and Pistons (fingers crossed), Detroit can throw a third when the Tigers' season ends to celebrate not being subjected to these clowns anymore.

It's just too bad that Copa will still be filled with idiots trolling for chicks or if they ARE chicks, screaming like groupies whenever Verlander pitches or when Inge plays, instead of actual baseball savvy fans who know when to boo their asses off at a team that deserves it.

I'm not quite ready to take this team out back and shoot it.  But, it's 40+ games in and by this point in any baseball season, you pretty much know what you're going to get.  Fortunately, the Tigers are in the right division or this could be a lot worse.  I just get a kick out of the people who want to can the entire staff or even Leyland himself.  These guys took us to a World Series in 2006 that nobody on the face of the planet predicted, yet suddenly they're the biggest dumbasses in baseball?  You've got the worst pitching staff in baseball without a single pitcher who can throw strikes when needed, but this is somehow Hernandez's fault?  What, all of these guys have mechanics problems?

I understand it's only May, but the problem with that is the fact that there's not even a glimmer on the horizon.  It'll be July before we know it and I can't see 18 guys suddenly turning it around all at the same time and that's what we're talking about here.  EVERYBODY has tanked so far, which is unheard of.  To have them all turn it around is going to be even harder.  I'm not one for predictions, especially a quarter of the way into a season, but this team will finish a couple games over .500 if they're lucky.  Enough games have been played to give us a pretty good idea of what we're going to get.

At what point is it okay to stop using that excuse? June? July? Bad baseball is bad baseball. You can't win a pennant in May, but you can damn sure lose it.

Do you think it's a coincidence that the only starter who has been productive at all is the one who WASN'T working with Hernandez all throughout the spring? How can you NOT blame the pitching coach when Verlander, Bonderman, Rogers and Robertson are ALL stinking up the joint? There's only one common denominator.

Really?  Everyone knew?  How much did you put down in Vegas?

I'm disappointed and as a season ticketholder I have skin in the game.  The good news is that it's a LONG season.  There definitely seems to be a chemistry problem.

Last I checked Verlander, Robertson, and Bonderman were all solid during their last starts.

They're a whopping 6 games out of first place and you're writing them off the season.  A little over dramatic don't you think?

A littler bitter there?  At least you the have Lions (ROTFLMAO) to look forward to.

Nobody saw 119 losses coming...but anyone who thought the Tigers weren't going to be one of the worst teams in baseball in 2003 is kidding themselves.

Yeah, Verlander and Robertson looked good...against Kansas City. Bonderman looked good last night and still came unraveled at the end (with an assist from the crappy defense behind him). Bonderman's given up 4+ runs or walked 4+ batters in every start but one and still hasn't shaken his habit of putting the team in a 2-0 hole before the first inning ends. Robertson's given up at least 4 runs in every start except the last one (again, against Kansas City). Verlander's given up 5+ runs four times this year; he gave up 5+ runs four times all of last season, and his fastball problems have been well documented.

They're a whopping 6 games out of first place and you're writing them off the season.  A little over dramatic don't you think?

What have they shown you that makes you think that 6 games won't become 10 and higher? What has Leyland done that gives you confidence? Putting the butcher Guillen at the hot corner? Putting old man Sheffield in left? Playing Zach Miner EVER?

(Disclaimer: I am not calling for Leyland to be fired. That would end any remote chance of them getting out of it.)

A littler bitter there?  At least you the have Lions (ROTFLMAO) to look forward to.

Who cares about the Lions? I've grown used to their ineptitude. They have nothing to do with this.
