Tate Forcier...
-
Wednesday, July 23, 2008 10:08 PM
... is going to end up at Michigan, mark it down. He recently made a myspace post with the header, "College Choice". This was the short and simple message: 1) Michigan 2) Penn State 3) Oregon 4) Texas A&M 5) Arizona State 6) Florida 7) New Mexico Who should it be??? Looks to me like we're going to get QB commit #3 sometime sooner or later, I would go with sooner. He asked "who should it be???" and multiple people commented with "go blue!" or "Commit to Michigan" or something of that sort. Now, if he does jump on board, who leaves, Beaver or Newsome? I would go with Beaver, only because he will be pressured to go to TCU so he doesn't ride the bench or change positions. Newsome will stay so they can have a battle for the ages to see who can run Michigan's new offense. Remember, this isn't official news or anything, but I don't get that feeling too often about recruits; when you do you're normally right.

Is there any chance that Rodriguez takes all three if none back out? Beaver could play wide receiver, so I guess that is a small but possible option.

God I am so sick of this Forcier crap. Welcome to the new and equally if not more so Terelle Pryor Show! This kid can not get enough attention and I wouldn't be suprised if he really does drag this out til signing day.

Eh.... Pryor drags out his commitment till a month after signing day while Forcier still has a month till his senior season begins. I see where you are coming from but I'm not sure I'd compare the two just yet. On that note, I'd expect to see more behavior like that of Forcier's in the future with big time recruits simply because of how the exposure of recruiting has evolved in the last 5 years. Has Beaver commented about that possibility of switching positions if all 3 end up at Michigan?

There really hasn't been anything recently from Beaver. Last I heard was he was good friends with McNeil and they were trying to get some other guys to come to UM but that was months ago. Haven't seen his name at any of the big camps recently either. He's gone more underground than Newsome. At least KN has resurfaced in the media http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/andy_staples/07/23/kevin.newsome/

I know we're thin at RichRod style qb's, but is it wise to have 3 in the same class? Will that affect future classes, not just in terms of getting recruits, but just number of schollies allocated to 1 position?

I would think it would just mean that you would not need to recruit a QB the next year and maybe (depending on redshirts) not the following year either.

RR said in one of his first pressers, that he would like to take 2 QB's each year. If Tate wanted to come to Michigan he should have committed long ago. He seems to me as more of a self promoter, that could be because of his handlers. I will be happy with the two we have, as long as both come.

Tate could make the biggest impact as a freshman of the three because of his mechanics. He grew up in a family of collegiate quarterbacks, so he has taken in plenty of coaching already. He completed around 70% of his passes in high school, which is remarkable. Brian at MGoBlog claims that Newsome has more potential because he hasn't had quarterback coaching compared to Forcier, so once he gets it he will be able to surpass Forcier. The only difference is that Tate could step in and throw almost immediately, learning the feel of the college game. Newsome may be a bit faster, but Tate is plenty athletic enough to run options. To me if Tate Forcier and Kevin Newsome both commit to Michigan (and stick to it) we will be in great shape to mold the QB that wins national titles with Rich Rodriguez. They would compete and bring out the very best in each other, and it would show us the true potential of the two.

And that's not taking into account that Feagin might be the second coming of Pat White. Or that Threet proves to be much more effective than anticipated. Both of these guys are going to have a year under their belts going into 2009...Forcier better be sh*t hot if he expects to top all that competition...

One reason I would not take three this year is because for 2010 there are two pretty good QB's in Michigan alone, Gardner and Bolden. You don't need to be overstacked this year if you can grab one of these guys next year and having three this year may hurt our chances at either one. OC Michigan Fan I know we're thin at RichRod style qb's, but is it wise to have 3 in the same class? Newsome is the qb that I hope we land. I just think he's gonna be the real deal plus he's gonna get a lot of good experience by going to Hargrave. I like Tate Forcier but I think Newsome is going to be better than him.

I like Tate Forcier but I think Newsome is going to be better than him. I agree. By going to Hargrave, Newsome will be tested like he never would have at his public high school. Combine that with the coaching that he will recieve and I would be shocked if he isn't a 5* prospect at the end of this season. Forcier might have the best mechanics now, but from a potential point of view, there's no doubt in my mind that Newsome has the bigger upside!
