Phelps takes to the pool

What a beast! I swear he is part fish! He looked amazing during the 400IM. The guy wasn't even breathing hard after he was done! He set a world and Olympic record - covering 400M in just over 4 minutes! Absolutely amazing!! He is the best swimmer I've ever seen and he has only just begun!!

UM and Ann Arbor is getting a lot of good PR throughout the olympics...especially with Peter Vanderkaay's success. Very nice...

Now does count as one of UM's greatest athletes?

Phelps has to keep his intake up in order to compensate for all the calories he burns during the 30-hours per week he spends in training. He told NBC that an average day might have the following menu: Breakfast: 3 fried egg sandwiches, 2 cups coffee, 5-egg omlette, bowl of grits, 3 pieces of french toast, 3 chocolate chip pancakes Lunch: 1 pound pasta, 2 ham and cheese sandwiches, energy drink (1,000 calorie) Dinner: 1 pound pasta, 1 large pizza, energy drink (1,000 calorie)
See you in another life, brother.

This guy is just amazing. 6'4" with the legs of a man 6'0 and the torso of someone 6'8", double jointed at the knees and elbows ad able to plantar flex his feet an exxtra 15 degrees for more range of motion. You can only coach some of what he does - the rest is nature's doing. On a good note, we have a friend who is built like Phelps who is also a swimmer. He is only 15 and stands 6'4". He is a dual citizen, so if he can't qualify for the US, hopefully he can qualify for the Irish team...we'll see in 2012!

After watching the 100M butterfly, I am speechless!! Beating this putz by .01?? (I call him a putz since he thought it would be best for swimming if someone else won the race.) I thought for sure he'd lost, even his Mom thought he'd taken second - holding up 2 fingers. Her daughter had to tell her he won - his mom looked like she was going to have a heart attack! Even Coach Bowman thought he was second. What an amazing feat - he is one of 2 people EVER to win 7 Gold Medals in a single Olympics. I'm so proud to watch him - not because he trained at UM, but because I am a proud American!! Congratulations Michael!!! PS - as a photographer, I REALLY enjoy the shots of the gallery of photographers and the behemoth lenses they all have focused on Phelps. Looking for a picture of them, but can't find it.

Phelps is simply amazing. A Michigan man ties the Olympic record with 6 Gold Medals. He has to be one of the greatest athletes ever at Michigan.

That was so crazy. I still can't tell that he did win, but I'll trust the times on the clocks!

This man is AMAZING...wonder if I can get his number (starts to ponder) anyways haha I've been definitely watching and hearing them name drop AA and Michigan has been a whole nother level. I'll definitely remember for the rest of my life this Olympic games, and jumping up in and out of my chair when they did the relay. I watched it live and when they finished first I was screaming...my poor animals head for cover though! I worked with somebody going to the school and said he seen him around campus...nothing big hah he is normal guy but in so many ways not! zaco Phelps is the man! You seen his Block M tattoo? I didn't know he had one hahah till you said that...so I went and looked for it Michigan tat (it's a very, VERY low cut shot...doesn't leave to much for the imaganation so men beware hah and ladies by all means)

Michael Phelps did it. Team USA did a great job at setting it up for Michael to break the record of the great Mark Spitz. To see a Michigan man break the record awesome!!
