Just joined, and wanted to introduce myself..
-
Friday, September 05, 2008 9:22 AM
Hello, I have been coming to this site for the past year and finally decided to join. I am from Massillon, Ohio. We have sent some good players to UofM over the years. Dennis Franklin, Shawn Crable, and next year JT Turner amongst others. I find alot of good info on this site about my wolverines. It's not easy living in Ohio and being a Michigan fan right now. People around here always ask me "Why are you a Michigan fan?" It's real easy. When I was a kid here in Massillon, we had a football camp every year that Steve Luke (Ohio State, Green Bay Packers) put on. He always had pro players and all kinds of coaches come to the camp. One year he had Bo as a speaker. He gave the most fired up, intense talk I had ever heard. From then on I was hooked on Michigan football. If you get a chance, check out www.massillontigers.com, our facilities for a high school team are second to none. We live football here in Massillon 365 days a year. Well here is to Rich Rod and the wolverines getting this thing turned around and get Michigan football back to where it belongs!! GO BLUE!!

Thanks to all for the welcoming. I have a question for all the Ohio based Michigan fans. How did you become a Michigan fan?

I was born at University Hospital in Ann Arbor and grew up in either Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti most of my childhood until my parents moved me down here my freshmen year of HS. Needless to say I don't like my parents very much.

Welcome Tiger one, I live in NC so we will probably never cross paths. lol That must suck being in Ohigho, and being a Michigan fan. It didn't use to suck living in NC as a Michigan fan, now its really bad here too.

Grew up in Toledo in the 80's and 90's so I enjoyed UM domination!!! Moved to Columbus almost 6 years ago for a job and the Maize and Blue are sadly 1-4 in my time here...YIKES!!! I think I need to move back lol

I was born in Grand Rapids (my parents went to school at Ottawa Hills HS - David Harris' HS!), but moved to Dayton, OH when I was 6. Tom Campana, who played for Ohio State in the early 70s and ran a tounchdown back against us (either in 1970 or 1971) lived right down the street for gosh sakes!!! I had to either eat snowballs and insults or root for Ohio State. I am a stubborn bastard who was smarter than the other kids. I avoided the brainwashing and went north for a superior education and academic experience. Why settle when you can be The Leaders and Best!

Not to hijack this thread, but I often read of UM fans in Ohio who claim to hate where they live. If that is the case, why not move? We don't *have to* live where we grew up. There are jobs all over the country.

Welcome, just caught the replay of the Massillon show on espn classic. Great program you have. Growing up in SE mich only wished our High School programs were like that. Played HS ball was fortunate enough to go to THe UOFM football camp. Bo was awesome in his speeches. He only was there for 2 days but it was like the second coming the day we knew he was showing up.. Just wish there were some tapes of Bo's speeches like there are of UFER'S calls. We would be turning recruits away. BEAT MCKINLEY!

What's up man. I agree with you and I have no doubt that RR will get Michigan back to where it belongs. He's the right coach with the wrong players. It will just take him time. Probably 2 years. This is a sad, dark age for us right now. But I will continue to wear the maize and blue proudly down here in Vegas.

There are jobs all over the country. To answer that question as to why I don't move is I have a 7 year old daughter down here that I am in the middle of a custody fight for and I am also enrolled in school. Hopefully I can get custody and would be able to move in about 2 years but for now I live amongst the heathens.

Welcome aboard Tiger One. I live near Salem, not to far from you. I used to work at Timken Roller Bearing till I was laid off many years ago. You ask how did I become a Michigan fan. Late 60's junior high, I rooted for OSU, Kern, Otis, etc. I thought they were about the best. Fast forward high school, 1972. Up till then our football team, wasn't very good. Maybe won 4-5 games over a 5 year span. We lost to a team by a combined score of 127-0 over 3 years. We were there b***h. Our senior year a whole new coaching staff took over. A RR scenario. The first change was the winged helmets. Michigan uniforms. Luckily our colors were blue and gold. The first game we stunned the team that whipped us 21-20. And that's how I became a Michigan man!
