I'm a big Herbie fan, and, shocking as it might sound, he actually knows his stuff. He is one of the better analysts ESPN has. I met him in the press box last year at Illionois and we talked about the Big Ten for a minute or so, and I have never ever thought that he has favoried Ohio State over Michigan.
I enjoy Herbie as well, I think he's a great personality for the show and broadcasts, but more than a few of his "predictions" over the years have contained two elements:
1. A wide margin of "wrongness"
2. A never-ending attempt to not appear to be an OSU homer. This bugs me because we all are aware that he went to school there, if he thinks they're going to be good, he doesn't have to apologize for it... What bugs me is how far he'll go out of the way to back a lesser team in an attempt to appear objective. We're all aware of the potential bias Kirk, just tell us what you really think please.
Point number one tends to take a tole after a while. He knows his stuff as an analyst before and during the games (which is when he's at his best), but breakdowns of the upcoming season? Eh, not so much. I wish he'd leave the season predictions, etc, for the Mark Mays of the world.
