First Game at The Big House..
-
Tuesday, July 22, 2008 7:15 AM
Greetings from Florida.. Wife and I have booked our first trip to the Big House for the Illinois game this fall. Looking forward to it. Curious if any of you have insight as to "must see" places to eat, bars, events, traditions, etc in the city of Ann Arbor?

I did not want to start my own thread, so I'll hijack this one. I've seen Michgan play many times, just never in their own Stadium. I'm going to my first game in the Big House to see M (hopefully) whoop up on Little Brother this year. Wifey is alumni, so she will show me the ropes. I was in AA last week & saw the stadium under renovations, I can't wait to finally go inside.

Really need to watch the Marching Band march into / out of the stadium at the beginning/end of the game. They start at Reville (sp?) hall, and play all the way to the stadium. Before the band gets into formation at the hall, they have a drum show on the steps of the hall. THAT is AWESOME. It's great seeing the band just fill the street, and see the masses of people following them to the stadium. If you ever notice, when we win, they march back to Reville with their hats on backwards, it's great seeing the Band get the crowed pumped up every game.

I tailgate off of Hoover so we can hear and see the band - but I've never noticed the hat-thing. I'll be watching!
Regarding our military: "If you can't stand behind them, stand in front of them." RIP Bo. You were an amazing man; it is because of you, I am the Michigan fan I am today.

I like Mark's Mid Town Coney. It's on S. State Street, just South on the I94 S. State Street interchange. Great food, great Michigan decor. I even saw Mark Biehl and his family there the Sunday after the osu game in 2003.

A little known dessert treat is to stop by Rod's Diner on State St. near Coach and Four Barber Shop/Mr Spots (The Best Hot wings I've ever had). Get a Collider. It's basically like a "blizzard" but made with soft serve frozen yoghurt (sp?), candy, fruit and... here's the kicker... Cereal... I recommend a vanilla collider with peanut butter cups, bananas and Captain Crunch... I wish I would have never introduced my pregnant wife to this place. She may make me drive 2 hours each way to get her one.

I remember my first time at the Big House. I walked in the gate and was like "OMG I am finally here". Then I walked in the Big House itself and I just froze. I couldn't believe how big it actually is. It is truely an amazing site! You are going to absolutely love it! As far as bars, we went to one that was 3 stories. I don't remember the name of it but it had kinda caves in the basement. 1st level was "millenium" and it was your typical dance bar. And the 2nd floor was circus themed. It was a really cool bar IMO.
