Glad to hear it and EXCITED to have him as a WOLVERINE!!!!! I believe he will be an early enrollee also giving him valuable time to practice and get conditioned. I have a good feeling he will be starting as a freshman unless one of the current guys absolutely blows us away.

You have to love all the things he and his family said about his Michigan visit, this will be great for recuiting !

Four-star quarterback Kevin Newsome of Chesapeake (Va.), Rivals.com's No. 39 player from the class of 2009, has committed to Michigan.

"We called the coaches this morning and Kevin talked to Coach [Rich] Rodriguez and committed," Kevin Newsome Sr. told Rivals.com's Mike Farrell this morning. "Coach Rodriguez was excited."

Newsome told Farrell today in informing him of his decision that he loved his visit to U-M, noting it was the only visit he took where he left campus 100 percent happy and without any concerns. He also feels he's a good fit for the Michigan offense. "If you're good enough for the NFL, you're good enough for the NFL," he said. "Anywhere you go in the country, as a quarterback, you are going to have to do what you have to do to become a better quarterback from studying film, repetition throwing the football, working with your wide receivers and working with the athletes and obviously Michigan's going to have the athletes. Just like anywhere else, you're going to have to pay your dues and work hard."

There was a variety of things that stood out to Newsome after his visit, he told TheWolverine.com after his visit.

"I really loved the coaching staff with Coach [Rich] Rodriguez and Coach [Fred] Jackson," he said. "I love the winning tradition of Michigan. I really believe Michigan is the Godfather of college football and that's what makes the Michigan-Ohio State game so notorious.

"Campus-wise, everything was big. It's the Big House. I can't even describe the different buildings, the practice field, the weight room – all those things were top of the line."

While visiting Michigan, Newsome and his family were able to meet and discuss the academic aspects of Michigan with academic advisor Shari Acho, something Newsome's mother specifically referred to as a highlight of his April 12 weekend visit

"I loved Miss Shari too," Newsome said. "I believe I want to major in Business type subjects and Michigan's Business School [compared] around the United States is one of the top, so that's already a great advantage for Michigan."

As a junior, Newsome passed for approximately 1,500 yards and ran for 600 more as a dual-threat quarterback. He had also visited Penn State, Maryland, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Duke among others.

Newsome is Michigan's sixth commitment, the third in the top 50 nationally.

This kids has his life together, he is focused on academics, and working hard to be a great football player.  He will get an excellent education, and do great things at Michigan on and off the field.

Great news. Seems to have a good mentality. I guess we have our QB of the future unless Feagin turns out to be something special.

I heard that also.  That would be huge for him to get in here next January and have 8 whole months to learn the offense and get Barwisized.  I'm going to predict that he is the starter by the middle of the 09 season.

In a couple of years it will be interesting to see if Michigan ended up better off losing Terrelle Pryor and in turn gaining Mr. Newsome

Couldnt be happier about this. And it is true that a smart QB is alot better than an athletic QB. He doesnt seem cocky, or a premaddon (see pryor) and seems to have a solid family backing and good mentality for what it takes to become great. The quote about "if your good enough for the NFL, your good enough for the NFL", is maybe single handedly the smartest thing I have ever heard come out of a recruits mouth. Nothing is guarenteed cause you were good in high school, you have to work to earn it. LOVE IT!!! Very excited about Kevin. Also has anyone seen the highlight video brian posted at MgoBlog? His Oline is the sorriest thing I have EVER seen. If this guy had some time to set up and throw...well, Im pretty excited to see him develope as a passer when he has time to throw. His accuracy seems amazing, granted its a highlight tape so the bad  throws wont show up. But with the time he has to throw, he was hitting his recievers on the move (cause he had no time) deep and short. 4 months into the RRod era, great things taking place. Go Blue, those who stay will be champions!!!

Big get, have to like the way the class is shaping up... how do you think this affects the rest of the qb recruits we're looking at for this class?  You gotta believe Rodriguez wants to bring in 2 or 3.

Well on Newsome's myspace page Tate Forcier left a pretty interesting quote about a Leak/Tebow type thing.

And on a side note... Holy crap Newsome looks like Wayne Brady!

I glanced this morning and thought i saw that the Newsome thread was the same as last night's. I didn't notice the "COMMIT #6" part. YES!!!! I'm not saying he's the next coming of anyone, but every quote I've read from him is 100% right on what I want to hear from my quarterback. Solid head on his shoulders, solid family support it sounds, what a great day for Michigan! Way to go RichRod and staff (Jackson)!

Oh, and big props to Kevin for figuring things out early, being able to focus on his senior season, and avoiding the whole stupid hat stunt.
