2 more possible commits soon - Tuesday, July 29, 2008 9:32 AM
In the class of 2009, Michigan has already received a verbal commitmentfrom Apopka, Fla., athlete Jeremy Gallon, and is in position to receiveseveral more. Among the strongest possibilities are Pahokee, Fla.,teammates Vincent Smith and Brandin Hawthorne. Both prospects are setto announce their commitments at Pahokee’s Kickoff Classic game Aug. 30.

FlaVarsity.com publisher Michael Langston, who has covered both Pahokeeprospects’ careers the past few years, feels Michigan is the team thathas the best chance to land both players.

Smith, a 5-foot-7, 159-pound running back prospect with explosive speedand jaw-dropping agility, also holds offers from the likes ofTennessee, Iowa State, Wisconsin and Minnesota, but has consistentlylisted Michigan among his favorites.

Hawthorne, at 6-1, 196 pounds, played defensive end as a junior, butprojects to the outside linebacker position in college. BesidesMichigan, Hawthorne has offers from the likes of Tennessee, WestVirginia, South Florida and Louisville.

159 is smurf size...right Big Blue?

I was thinking the same thing for the DE that is 190. Obviously they are just starting their senior year of high school but it seems small.  I would envision RR will be recruiting quite a few small lightning fast guys at just about every position.

I found Noel Devine size to be 5'8 and 170.  I do realize that isn't far off but seriously, 10 lbs. makes a big difference.
And oh, yes, that IS smurf size.  F'ing smurf size.

I don't care what size he is as long as he gets the ball to the endzone. And I am only 5'9 but I have ran over people that are much bigger by simply getting LOWER. And if you are going to make the arguement that the people I faced were'nt the same. I'm going to tell you this kid isn't the same as me. Hes probably much faster and stronger than I was.

Just to update this, Brandin Hawthorne had moved his decision date up to August 29th.  He says that it's between Michigan and Louisville and that he is choosing a day early because he wants to focus on his senior season.  Nothing in the article about Vincent Smith, but worse case scenario is that he just chooses on August 30th.

Seems like Michigan still seems to be in faborable standing with both of them.  I really hope we land both of these kids, they both seems to have a lot of upside, and it would be nice to have three Pahokee kids in Richardson's ear.  Here is a link to the free Scout article:

I read on Rivals that Smith's presser may be moved to Thurs.  He is choosing between Tenn. and Michigan.  I still think we are in great position.

oh if its down to Tenn and Michigan, I definatley give us the nod on this guy.  Michigans a much better fit then Tennessee. You would think it would be an easy decision, at least where Im sitting it is. TY4 update.
