The Wolverines keep their NCAA dreams alive.

The University of Michigan softball team entered the NCAA Super Regional with 42 homeruns as a team. After game two on Sunday, the Wolverines have climbed to 47 homeruns. Becky Marx teed off on a first inning pitch from Monica Abbot, who left the game shortly there after, for a two run shot and put Michigan on top early, 2-0. Tiffany Worthy backed up her game one homerun, with a solo blast of her own to lead off the Michigan second. With that shot, Worthy has homered in each of her last three games. Michigan also used excellent pitching from Jennie Ritter, who bounced back from allowing five runs in yesterday’s game one loss. She only allowed one run this time around on seven hits. She also picked up her 1,200th career strikeout when she got Kristi Durant down swinging in the top of the sixth. Ritter also improves to 11-0 in elimination game. The only run the Lady Vols were able to scratch across against the Michigan ace was in the top of the sixth when Sarah Vaughn, pinch running for Tonya Callahan, scored a wild pitch that flew over the head of catcher Becky Marx. Tennessee ace Monica Abbot exited the game in the first inning after giving up the Marx homerun and a Findlay single. She was replaced with Megan Rhodes who finished with surrendering only two hits but three runs. Abbot still picked up the loss, however. She will be starting game three for the Lady Vols.

A more extensive recap from game two will come after the decisive game three at Tyson Park against the Tennessee Lady Vols. Like the penultimate game two and game one, the showdown will be on ESPN television. A coin toss will determine which team will. The first pitch will be thrown at approximately 3:35PM.
