Ok, first of all let's get the whole stadium name thing out of the
way. Some bank paid a lot of money to get their named plastered on the
new Tiger Stadium. Unfortunately for them they didn't pay me any
so for the time being I'll be calling it the 'new' Tiger stadium.
I've been to quite a few major league ballparks and I have to say the new stadium is definitely among the best. The seats are kind
of far from the field (compared to the old Tiger Stadium) but the
sightlines are great. The stadium is decorated with Tiger
statues everywhere. They seem to have spared no expense in
decorations and ornamentation. Last week two of the large Tiger
statues actually drove down US12 on flatbed trucks on the way to the
stadium (they passed me on the other side of the road) and it was neat
to see them installed in the new stadium. The scoreboard is
HUGE. The water 'fireworks' are some kind of bad joke,
though. They advertised a wide variety of food but the lines were
really long so I didn't get to try any. The statues of past
Tiger greats in left field are really cool. The concourses are
the widest that I've ever seen in a public stadium. For the
baseball purist the dimensions of the field are immense. No
matter how bad Tiger pitching is you're not going to see many home
runs hit here. Parking wasn't as bad as I thought but I'm kind
of familiar with the area. The carousel and Ferris wheel
were big hits with the kids although the Tigers charge you extra to
ride them.
