1/18/01- Bank One Leaves Michigan Hockey Fans Out in the Cold

If you plan on attending a Michigan hockey game, you had better bring cash with you.  Bank One, an official sponsor of Michigan athletics, has decided to pull their ATM from Yost arena.

This lack of convenience seriously damages Yost as a major sports venue.  Love them or hate them ATM's are considered a necessity to many people on the run these days.  Yost will host the NCAA Ice Hockey Regionals in 2002 and 2003.  What will visitors think when they have to search through Ann Arbor for an ATM?

While most businesses make it easy as possible for patrons to spend money on the premises, the lack of ATM at Yost limits the spending options available to fans.  While fans can use credit cards at the Pro Shop and M-Den booth for souvenirs, credit cannot be used to purchase concessions.

Now I don't blame Bank One for pulling their ATM.  From a business standpoint they may not have had enough transactions to justify leaving the ATM at Yost.  But it's time for someone at the Athletic Department to call on Bank One to provide this service as part of their sponsorship deal.  If Bank One wants to hang their advertising in Yost they should be required to offer services to its patrons.  They bring in temporary ATM's for football games, they should be required to do the same for Hockey games.

If UM doesn't require Bank One to provide the service then the UM Credit Union should place an ATM at Yost...
