2001
Spring Game
Early into Spring Practice, Drew Henson
decided to leave the team and join the New York Yankees, throwing the
Wolverine QB position up for grabs.
The leading candidate, John Navarre, looked
good at times but also showed signs that he needs a lot of work before the
start of the 2001 non-conference season. Navarre did lead his squad to
21-7 victory but both he and opposing QB Jeraime Gonzalez turned the ball
over too many times. Gonzales did show some nice moves in scrambling
during broken plays.
The rebuilt offensive line looked shaky and
that may have contributed to the turnovers at the QB position.
On the good side the defense looked
at all positions. Hopefully, this bodes well for the upcoming
season.
