11/6/00- Gary Moeller is Named Head Coach of the Detroit Lions

Former Wolverine Head Coach Gary Moeller has been named Head Coach of the Detroit Lions (NFL).  Moeller was chosen to fill the position after Lions Head Coach Bobby Ross resigned today.  Moeller was given a 3 year contract with the Lions.

Wolverine fans will remember Moeller, who led the Wolverines to a 44-13-3 (.733) record during his tenure as Wolverine Head Coach.  Moeller left the Wolverines after an embarrassing alcohol related incident off-the-field.  Moeller, who succeeded Michigan legend Bo Schembechler, was under pressure after consecutive 4 loss seasons.  Moeller has avoided questions about the incident that caused him to leave the University of Michigan.  He was replaced at Michigan by Lloyd Carr.
