9/2/00- Game Day, FINALLY! 244 Days. That when the Wolverines last took the football field. And what a game it was! The Wolverines triumphed in overtime defeating a tough Alabama team, 35-34, in the Orange Bowl. But 244 days is a long time to wait... When last we saw our Wolverines Tom Brady, Dhani Jones, Ian Gold, and Rob Renes, were leading them to victory. Now they are gone. That is the great irony of college athletics. The great athletes leave the collegiate game at the zenith of the power. We won't see them slow down or grow old. We will remember Tom Brady standing tall in the pocket leading the Wolverine to another 4th quarter comeback. We will remember Dhani Jones and Ian Gold ruthlessly pursuing an enemy QB. We will remember Rob Renes blowing back the enemy center and disrupting the backfield with reckless abandon. But now is the time for new heroes rise up. Surely we have some ideas who they may be. Not since Charles Woodson in 1997 have Wolverine fans anticipated the return of a player like David Terrell. We wait for Drew Henson to fulfill his great potential. We hope that Justin Fargas remains healthy and runs like the wind. And don't forget about Anthony Thomas. We wonder what new names will we know after this season. Chris Perry? Eric Wilson? John Navarre perhaps? Let it begin... Go Blue! |
