Painfully Out of Touch...
Season ticket renewals have begun to arrive and Wolverine fans
everywhere are the asking the same questions they ask every year.
Why can't I pay for my season tickets with a credit card?
Why can't I renew online?
What century is the athletic department mired in?
But these complaints are old. While we the season ticket holders
are forced to bear yet another price increase the athletic department
continues to make us rely on the U.S. postage service to safely
deliver our checks to 1000 South State Street. We get no
confirmation of our order other than when our checks clear and no way
to track the transaction. And if something does happen to your
renewal in the mail "...the Ticket Office may either assign you to
different seats or cancel your season ticket order..." Never
happen you say? IT HAPPENED TO ME WHEN I WAS STUDENT SEASON
TICKET HOLDER. I now hand deliver my season ticket renewals...
The Maize and Blue ticket police tell us this this archaic process is
to help them track down all of those dastardly people who have had
tickets for decades who want (gasp!) to pass their tickets down to
their children. The unmitigated gall of those people who after
30 or 40 years of faithful payment want to maintain the family
tradition of attending Michigan football games! As legitimate
season ticket holder I want to go on the record as saying that it
would make a lot more sense (and listen to this Bill- make $$$$) to come up
with some policy to let season ticket holders 'will' their tickets to a
family member? Charge a fee for the transfer and call it a day...
Make the fee enough the discourage the casual fans and make the
transfer-ee be a blood relation. I'm going to stop because I'm
making too much sense...
But wait there's a new wrinkle this year!
New Stupidity...
Have you heard the one about the organization that asked for your
e-mail address and wants you to send it in on a post card (postage
not paid)? A #$%&# Post Card??? Wouldn't it make a lot
more sense to provide an e-mail address that you could send your
e-mail address to? It's also customary to let someone know
how
your e-mail address will be used. Will my address be sold to a
third party? Will I get endless SPAM e-mails offering me limited
edition Michigan Wolverine Porcelain Santas? What are they
thinking?
What does it mean?
I know there are the
people out there who think that I'm being unreasonable. I'll
probably get a dozen or so messages from people who think I'm being
unfair to the athletic department. It's just an e-mail address
they'll say...Of course, if the athletic department screws up
something as simple as collecting an e-mail address you have to wonder
what can they do?
Go Blue!
