2/15/02- DISAPPOINTING HOOPS SEASON?  NOT REALLY...

The last couple of weeks, I've heard a number of Wolverine fans talk about how disappointing this season has been.  I have to agree that the mercurial nature of this year's hoops squad is hard to fathom but it doesn't rank any where NEAR the among the worst disappointments long suffering Wolverine hoops fans have endured during the last decade.

Let's review:

Disappoint is-

When your best player forgets that his team is out of timeouts in the biggest game of his collegiate career.

When allegations of possible recruiting violations and illegal 'gifts' taint the memory of the greatest recruiting class in the history of NCAA basketball.

When the greatest recruiting class in history comes up short in two consecutive National Championship Finals.

When the greatest recruiting class in history only stays together for two seasons.

That we know who Ed Martin is...

That Steve Fisher couldn't trust the people around him to make the right decisions.

That after firing Steve Fisher, Athletic Disaster err... I mean Director Tom Goss held a national search for a replacement and best he could come up with was Brian Ellerbe.

That the NCAA has placed Michigan on double secret probation which leads to the punishment of players like Jamal Crawford while players at other schools who commit similar 'transgressions' are given a free pass.

The list goes on and on...

Losing by almost 40 points to Purdue?  That ain't nothin'!!

And that's sad.  I want to believe that Tommy Amaker is building a strong foundation for this program.  I
need to believe that he is.  The disappointment of the last decade is almost too much to bear for this Michigan fan...
