5/17/01- UMGoBlue.COM Update- 2 Year Anniversary...

Hello Wolverine Fans,

Two years ago, I decided to start UMGoBlue.COM.  I've especially enjoyed talking to the people who visit this site.  The encouraging e-mails I've received let me know that you appreciate the work we do here.

In the beginning, UMGoBlue.COM was lucky to get a few dozen visitors a day.  Now visitors number in the thousands on some days.  The update list started  with around 50 names and it too, now numbers in the thousands.  To the people who've been here from the beginning- Thanks!  To the new visitors- I hope that you enjoy the site.  To Drew Montag and Matt Ranville- Thanks for the help guys!  To everyone who has taken the time to write a guest commentary- Thanks!  To people who participate in the Discussion forums- Thanks to you too.  To the Michigan athletes who enjoy this site-  Thanks for representing Michigan with class and honor.

To my knowledge- UMGoBlue.COM is the largest source of Wolverine images on the Internet.  I've added features as the site has grown and will continue to do so.  To the naysayers who said that this site couldn't grow without joining the rivals network...well they're gone and UMGoBlue.COM is still here.  To the people in the Athletic Department who dismissed this site as a here-today-gone-tomorrow phenomenon, well we've outlasted an athletic director and two hockey sports information directors.

This site isn't going away...

The past year has been a time of rebirth for Michigan Athletics.  New Athletic Director Bill Martin has swept away the hubris of the failed Tom Goss administration and things seem to be looking up.  With Nike back on board as a major sponsor, the added revenue from football ticket increases, and new expanded seating at Yost hopefully the budget woes of the past few years are behind us.  The basketball program, a source of disappointment since the Ed Martin revelations threw the program in turmoil, seems to have been revitalized by new Head Coach Tommy Amaker.  The Hockey program continues to hum along under the guidance of Head Coach Red Berenson, and the football program under Lloyd Carr had an another entertaining season.

But there have been some disappointments during the last year.  When you follow something as closely as I follow Michigan Athletics you can't help but find out things that you'd rather not know...So with apologies to Ann Arbor Native and performer Bob Seger...

Things that I wish I didn't know now that I didn't know then...

I wish that I didn't know that a former Wolverine QB's idea of 'action' is the kind the you buy on a street corner in Detroit...

I wish that I didn't know that a some Wolverine 'fans' think that it is alright to harass a coach's family because they don't like the job that he's doing...

I wish that I didn't know that the hockey program isn't immune to the problems of big time collegiate athletics...

But knowing these and other disappointing things can't take away from the enjoyment I've gained in following Michigan Athletics over the last several years.

Please drop me a line if there's anything that you've particularly enjoyed  on the site.  I'd love to hear from you.

Go Blue!
