Hello Wolverine Fans,
It's been a great year! Last May I decided to start
UMGoBlue.COM and I've enjoyed every minute of it.
It's been year marked by success and disappointment. The
Football and Hockey teams maintained their usual excellence
even if National Championships remained out of their grasp.
The basketball team seemed to show the spark of rebirth
before fading while the specter of old scandals seemed to
hang on the air.
Tom Goss left the Athletic Department and the University
is currently searching for a replacement. The Goss era
will be remembered for great plans and mediocre
implementations, marked by the promise of new revenue
while delivering two consecutive $3 Million deficits.
If there's one thing that I've learned from dealing with
people on this website, it's that Michigan fans truly
believe that 'Leaders and Best' is more than just a line in
our fight song. It is a defining ideal that marks
Michigan Wolverine alumni and fans from others. Michigan
fans demand the best from our school both on and off the
field. Michigan fans will not be satisfied with anything
other than total domination. In the real world our teams
sometimes fall short. But it is not because they lack
our support or from a lack of effort on their part.
Sometimes this site is criticized for paying too much
attention to some of 'bad' aspects of Wolverine Athletics
(trouble with the law, athletic department issues, etc.)
Being a fan doesn't mean that we should ignore when
our school or its athletes fall short of our expectations.
It is our duty to hold them to highest standards of
excellence. When an athlete dons the Maize and Blue
we should be proud of them. We should also be proud
of the people working in the Athletic Department.
Unfortunately, too often we have been asked to make
allowances for mismanagement that would not be tolerated
in the private sector.
I want to thank Matt Ranville and Drew Montag for coming
onboard to help run their respective sports. They have
added great content to the site.
The site has grown remarkably over the last year and
many great things are planned for the future. We are
currently seeking press accreditation and are expanding
the functionality of the web site to include an online
statistics database and e-mail hosting capabilities.
It's going to be another great year...
