The Wolverines are #6 in both major polls and #4 in the BCS rankings.
[Editor's Note: The Wolverines need to just keep on winning and hope
for some luck. With their last 4 opponents being unranked moving up in
the BCS rankings is a long shot.]
10/30/01 Some former Wolverines
had big days in the NFL: Desmond Howard (Detroit) had 247 return
yards, Anthony Thomas and David Terrell led Chicago to an OT victory, and
Brian Griese (Denver) beat Tom Brady (New England) in the battle of UM QB's.
10/30/01 Tickets are available
for the Minnesota game.

10/29/01
The current issue of Sport Illustrated (10/29/01) has an article on former
Wolverine QB Tom Brady (New England/NFL). It seems that Brady almost
LEFT Michigan after getting beat for the starting position by Scott
Dreisbach (1996) and Brian Griese (1997). Lloyd told him, "You have to
compete every day of your life, in everything. You compete if you're
sick, if you're injured, if you don't feel like playing. It doesn't
matter." [Editor's note: It would have been easy for Brady to
transfer to some college where he would have been the designated starter.
But athletes and students alike attend Michigan because they thrive on
competition. Brian Griese had to make a similar decision prior to 1997
season. Both Brady and Griese chose to come back and fight for the
starting QB position rather than take the easy way out. That kind of
moxy shows character- give me Tom Brady and Brian Griese over a certain
other over-hyped prospect ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. Not everyone is up to
the challenge- not everyone is worthy. THOSE WHO STAY WILL BE
CHAMPIONS.]
10/29/01
Survey Results- 16% of respondents correctly predicted the margin of victory
over Iowa. 39% chose Brian Griese as the QB they'd choose if they needed a
50 yard pass play to win the game. 47% chose David Terrell as the
receiver that they'd want to throw to for a 50 yard play to win the game.
52% think that the Men's basketball team WILL NOT make the NCAA tournament
this season.

Game time for MSU is 3:30 (ABC). [Editor's Note: Someone should

yards.) KR/WR Desmond Howard (Detroit) had two long kick returns (59,
47) and had a 36 yard TD reception.

An OUTSTANDING article on the late Wolverine Broadcaster Bob Ufer.
Detroit Free
Press [Editor's Note: My first Michigan game was Ufer's
last, a 9-7 loss to Iowa. To those who are familiar with his work he
IS Michigan football. I grew up listening to Ufer on the radio with my
Dad, and at first I thought he was nuts. But to steal a line from Ufer,
"When you spend your entire football life watching Bo Schembechler and Lloyd
Carr- You learn that football is a religion and Saturday is the holy day of
obligation." To this day at every home Michigan victory over Ohio
State as time runs out we end game by screaming out the score as Ufer would-
"MEEEECHIGAN 24 OHIO STATE 17." I'm sure that Ufer is looking down
from football Valhalla and smiling on his Wolverines.
